Mad Cow Theatre has announced the construction of our new facility, a 2-theatre complex slated to open in Fall of 2012 at 54 West Church Street in Downtown Orlando. Made possible by a series of agreements executed with the City of Orlando this afternoon, this agreement provides a permanent home for resident, professional theatre in Downtown Orlando. Mad Cow currently hosts 12,000 – 15,000 patrons at over 200 performances and events annually. With an estimated economic impact of $1.2 Million each year in direct and event-related spending, Mad Cow and our patrons support an estimated 35.2 FTE jobs. Increased capacity in the new facility will foster a greater artistic and economic impact on the community.

Occupying approximately 8,800 sq ft on the second floor of 54 West Church Street, Mad Cow’s new facility will feature two theatres, a spacious lobby and wine bar, stellar views of Church Street, steeply raked seating risers creating excellent sightlines, and comfortable modern seating, all just steps away from exciting dining and nightlife options and the Church Street SunRail station. BDG Construction Services Inc. will be providing build out of the new facility.

We’re increasing Mad Cow’s audience capacity while retaining our intimate theatre experience. The Harriett Theatre will seat 170 patrons. The Black Box Theatre will seat 60-70 with rotating, flexible seating arrangements. Additionally, the complex includes facilities to provide Central Floridians and visitors to our region with nationally recognized theatre experiences that ignite the imagination, lift the spirit and engage our community. There’s nothing like it in Central Florida.

Originally slated to open in early 2012, this new timeline allows additional time to provide continuity with many details of the construction, including finalizing real estate agreements, obtaining various government approvals, coordinating fundraising pledges and the overall build out schedule.

Mad Cow Theatre is making progress everyday thanks to the visionary and generous support of the citizens of Central Florida and individual philanthropists, foundations and corporations who believe that Orlando's success is tied directly to the nurturing and funding of the regional cultural scene. To date we have raised $1.35 million of the estimated $1.7 million needed to build out the new theatre.

This new theatre becomes a symbol of our community’s investment in Mad Cow Theatre’s mission. It says that the conversations that we initiate in our city and the significant art that is being created here are meaningful to our citizens. It also says we value Orlando artists who create unique work that inspires us and we want to keep them gainfully employed in Central Florida.

Mad Cow Theatre would like to thank the City of Orlando and our current real estate partners both at the current and future space in this dynamic transition. Mad Cow Theatre has been Downtown Orlando’s resident professional theatre company for the past twelve years and we look forward to many more at 54 West Church Street. Mad Cow is committed to bringing our audience and community the best possible selection of plays that entertains and enriches the Central Florida community.
