Two timeless western films, BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID and SHANE, will be shown at the Lyric Theatre free of charge to the public courtesy of The Lyric Theatre and the City of Stuart Community Redevelopment Agency. BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID will be shown at 3pm on Saturday, August 29th and 7pm on Sunday, August 30th. SHANE will be shown at 7pm on Saturday, August 29th and 3pm on Sunday, August 30th. Tickets are available only by visiting the Lyric Theatre Box Office. Directed by George Roy Hill in 1969, BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID has become an iconic western. The story follows two Western bank robbers of the Hole-In-The-Wall gang as they attempt various heists before finally fleeing to Bolivia when the law gets too close. Starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Katharine Ross, this exciting movie is 110 minutes long and won four Oscars. It was also one of the top 100 grossing movies of all time, making it a must-see.

SHANE, directed by George Stevens in 1953, chronicles the life of a weary gunfighter attempting to settle down with a homestead family who encounters conflicts between settlers and ranchers that force him to act. Starring Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, Van Heflin, and Jack Palance, this 118 minute Western leaves you on The Edge of your seat. It also won an Academy Award and is considered by many to be the greatest story of the West ever filmed.

In an ongoing effort to attract visitors and promote business activities within its service area, the City of Stuart Community Redevelopment Agency is pleased to partner with the Lyric Theatre in the sponsoring these free movies for the entire community.

The Lyric Theatre is a historic, 500-seat venue that hosts a year-round slate of entertainment including concerts, theatrical productions and children's programs. For ticket information, call (772) 286-7827 or purchase online at www.lyrictheatre.com.  The Friends of the Lyric, Inc. operates the theatre as a not-for profit organization.
