OCTOBER 2011:

October 8 - 10 a.m. (Saturday)
KNUFFLE BUNNY:
A Cautionary Musical
(Family Fare Series)
It sounds so simple, just a quick trip to the Laundromat with Daddy, his toddler daughter Trixie and her beloved Knuffle Bunny. But before you know it, things go horribly, hilariously wrong. With all the excitement of putting the clothes in the washer, they unknowingly toss Trixie's stuffed animal, Knuffle Bunny, in there too. Based on the popular children's book by Mo Willems, with music by Grammy® Award-winning composer Michael Silversher, this fun-filled musical celebrates the heart and heartache that can only come from a family visit to the local Laundromat.
(Family Fare Series Sponsored by SBA Communications Corporation)

(NOTE: Lisa Clark will lead an interactive, family music workshop for participants to learn an up-tempo song from the original score of Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical. k.d. lang
& THE SISS BOOM BANG
Throughout a career that has encompassed styles ranging from country to pop to classic torch songs, lang's musical journey has been distinguished by one unique component: a truly singular and beautiful voice that makes any song, in any style, truly identifiable as a k.d. lang performance. The chemistry between lang and her new band, the Siss Boom Bang, is reflected in Sing It Loud, her first studio album since 2008's Watershed. Tony Bennett has hailed k.d. lang as "the best singer of her generation."

BRUNDIBÁR
A Kravis Center Community Outreach Event
This children's opera tells of a brother and sister who seek money through singing in the street to buy milk for their ailing mother, only to have the quest thwarted by the evil organ grinder Brundibár. Extolling the triumph of good over evil, Brundibár has become an allegory of Hitler and the Nazi reign. Today, the opera provides a vehicle to instruct children in the importance of responsibility and courage in standing up against bullying and tyranny.
(NOTE: Performed by children during the Holocaust at the Terezin concentration camp near Prague, Brundibár was used by the Nazi regime as a propaganda tool to delude the outside world into thinking the Jewish prisoners were being treated humanely.)

Tickets start at $12
Recommended for ages 10 and up.

MAMMA MIA!
Seen by over 52 million people around the world, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus' global hit musical MAMMA MIA! is celebrating over 3,800 performances in its tenth smash hit year at Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre and remains among Broadway's top selling musicals. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the Greek island they last visited 20 years ago. The story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship to a trip down the aisle the audience will never forget.
