Henry, Larsen and Leung to Perform at BROADWAY UNPLUGGED

By: Apr. 07, 2011

Performing members of New York City's Jaradoa Theater are set to participate in BROADWAY UNPLUGGED..., a very special one-night-only event featuring theater songs and backstage stories, this Sunday, April 10th at 8 PM at University of Miami's Gusman Hall (1314 Miller Drive). Scheduled to appear are Broadway stars Joshua Henry (The Scottsboro Boys, American Idiot, In the Heights), Anika Larsen (Rent, Xanadu, Avenue Q), Telly Leung (Pacific Overtures, Rent, "Glee"), Shelley Thomas ( Brooklyn, Rent, Zanna, Don't!), and, at the piano, Nils Olaf Dolven (Composer, Serenade, Beatles).

The evening will be a fundraiser for Jaradoa Theater, a member-based group of theater artists - actors, directors, writers, and designers - who have come together to promote mercy, beauty and truth in an environment where artists thrive and use storytelling to address brokenness in their community. Play On!, Jaradoa's innovative acting and playwriting program which uses theater to improve literacy skills, has been run in public schools, community centers, an alternative-to-incarceration program for teenage felons, and a shelter for runaway and homeless teens. Jaradoa's critically acclaimed productions have included Serenade, The Small of Her Back and Shafrika, The White Girl.

Advance tickets for BROADWAY UNPLUGGED... are $35 and $20 for students (with ID), and are available at www.jaradoatheater.org. Tickets at the door are $40 and $25 for students.
