FST Improv Returns This Summer, Kicks Off 6/19

Summer is heating up and so is FST Improv. Saturday nights find their sense of humor again on June 19th when your favorite hooligans return to the Cabaret stage.

Is Mother Nature suffering from a major case of PMS? Can Sarasota set the Guinness world record for the most consultants hired by a single city? Can we short sell Ed Smith Stadium? These questions and more will not be answered when FST Improv ignores Florida's Sunshine Law with their new show: The Saturday-Super-Special-Sock-it-to-You-Forget-the-World-Sucks Improv Show.

"There is so much happening right now to make a person concerned, depressed or downright angry," says director Rebecca Langford, "I think it is our moral obligation to make fun of it."

Improv at FST relies on audience suggestions and response to create the show each night. Cast member Adam Ratner explains, "FST IMPROV is like a rollercoaster ride for your sense of humor. The energy of the improv actors combined with a wonderfully responsive audience somehow combines into this magical formula; one minute there could be a silly musical number being belted out on stage and the next minute you have folks from the audience up there participating in games... It's never the same show twice!"
But that's not all...a whirlwind of comedy will descend on Sarasota for a second year when with the Sarasota Improv Festival. Acts from throughout the state of Florida and across the country will converge on Sarasota for two nights of non-stop comedy. This year's festival will take place July 16-17.

The FST Improv cast this summer is comprised of Adam Ratner, Christine Alexander, Tim Beasley, Angel M. Parker, Chris Friday, Catey Brennan, Steve Turisi, Daryll Knapp, Samantha Stern and Jim Prosser on the piano. New to the cast is Michael Sangregorio who has just arrived from New York and will also be a teaching artist in the Improv program. The show is directed by Rebecca Langford.
FST Improv performances begin June 19th. Shows are Saturday Nights at 8:30 in the Goldstein Cabaret. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. with general admission seating and a cash bar. Known as Sarasota's Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman's Club building - now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting Contemporary Theatre in its three theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret and its newest space, the Gompertz Theatre.
