Celebration of the Arts Held At Bay Street Players 1/21

On January 21, 2012 at 7:00pm, the Bay Street Players will host a celebration of art in its many forms. Jazz by musicians Terry J. Harr and Vic Kusik will be featured with special guest Jim Carlton and an appearance by Mickey Carroll. The dancers of Studio 19 will perform, and visual art by local artists will be displayed in the lobby. Joel Warren will host the event. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students.

Terry J. Harr is an experienced musician currently residing in the Orlando area. He has been involved in the music business for forty-two years as a performer, music arranger and composer. Performing on keyboards, saxophone and vocals, Terry has accompanied many top popular artists on T.V., radio, clubs and the concert stage. With a degree in Music Education from Duquesne University, Terry has taught History of Jazz, Performance, and Jazz Vocal as an adjunct instructor at area colleges. As a composer and producer, Terry recently released his latest smooth jazz recording, "At The Grove," published by MHM Productions, South Park, Pa.

Self-taught eclectic guitarist Vic Kusik came to Central Florida in the early 70's playing original acoustic music after two years of gigs in the Washington D.C. area. "Dumb as a rock, I thought I actually had invented new guitar chords until somebody showed me some jazz tunes...it changed my musical direction and outlook..." Along the way Vic's groups have shared the stage with Ramsey Lewis, Paul Winter, Tim Weisberg, and others. Vic also plays solo jazz guitar and lends rich interpretation to jazz vocals and is in involved in multiple Avante' Guard projects such as "The Shamans of Art" (combining music with artistic visual creation), and the "Jungle Art Ensemble" a music group that fuses jazz with world music.

Jim Carlton is a popular fingerstyle guitarist, singer, comedian and writer. He began his music career in 1962 with Jim Stafford and Gram Parsons in their rock band, The Legends. In addition to his performing career, Jim has written material for several well-known personalities including the Smothers Brothers, Gallagher, Pat Paulsen, Joan Rivers, Roger Miller, Mason Williams and Jim Stafford. Jim lives in Mount Dora, Florida and regularly performs throughout the state. His act is a combination of standup comedy, exciting guitar solos, and vocals from The Great American Songbook.

Mickey Carroll is a guitar player, singer and band leader who is dedicated to giving back to the world through community activism and musical commentary. Mickey's career spans from the 1950s through the present. He is the founder of Mother J Productions, a non-profit he founded to fund arts education through concert performances and community events. Mother J contributed over $100,000 to arts education and world community disaster relief funds.
