Broward Center Announces Student Performance of Shakespeare's JULIUS CAESAR
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts presents an energetic and contemporary staging of Julius Caesar in the Amaturo Theater as a JM Family Enterprises Smart Stage Matinee on Monday, October 9 at 10 a.m.
Shakespeare's original language comes alive in a ruthless story which examines personal responsibility against the backdrop of great political consequences. This fast-paced adaptation is recommended for grades 8-12 and provides students with the opportunity to ask how the greater good is weighted against advice of friends, the roar of public opinion, strategic advantages and personal cost as well as one's moral compass.
The production is staged by Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, a three-year graduate program culminating in a Master of Fine Arts degree. Only twelve students are chosen each year from the thousands who audition nationwide to work in a program that combines rigorous classroom training with guest artist workshops and professional production experience. Graduates of the program have appeared on and off Broadway, in regional theatres, in feature films and on television.
JM Family Enterprises Smart Stage Matinees offer literature-based shows that promote reading skills and S.T.E.A.M. (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math) to make challenging concepts accessible to younger learners.
