Bach Fest. Choir Sing Carmina Burana At Daytona Festival 5/2
By: Gabrielle Sierra
Central Florida's Bach Festival Choir has been invited by the Daytona Beach International Festival to partner once again with the London Symphony Orchestra, this time to perform Carl Orff's epic Carmina Burana. The LSO Classical V performance, also featuring Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, will take place at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach on Saturday, May 2 at 8 p.m.
The Bach Festival Choir and London Symphony first paired in July 2007 to perform Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 to critical acclaim. The Orlando Sentinel said of that performance: "Friday's first-rate performance showed the Winter Park choir was every bit the equal of the world-class London Symphony Orchestra." This year's collaboration for Orff's Carmina Burana is sure to bring even greater praise. Carmina Burana is one of the few 20th-century classical works that has invaded popular culture. This powerful music of Orff can be heard today in movies and television commercials, as well as in live performances.
