ONE SINGULAR SENSATION!!

THE NEW PRODUCTION OF THE PULITZER PRIZE AND TONY AWARD WINNING MUSICAL COMES TO THE BROWARD CENTER IN FT. LAUDERDALE

FEBRUARY 17 -MARCH 1, 2009

PRESENTED BY RRA Broadway Across America - FT. LAUDERDALE

AND FLORIDA THEATRICAL ASSOCIATION

The new production of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning musical A CHORUS LINE comes to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale for a limited two week engagement Tuesday, February 17 through Sunday March 1, 2009.

A CHORUS LINE, conceived and originally choreographed and directed by Michael Bennett, is this writer's favorite musical.  It is a theatrical landmark and it is a work everyone should have the opportunity to treasue.  It features a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante (famously based on tapes of dancer 'talk sessions,') with music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban.

For this new production, Baayork Lee (a member of the regional cast and a woman who has kept alive Michael Bennett's original vision) restages the original choreography.

The new production features scenery by Robin Wagner, costumes by Theoni V. Aldredge, lighting by Tharon Musser adapted by Natasha Katz and sound by Acme Sound Partners. Musical supervision is by Patrick Vaccariello with musical direction by John O'Neill. Orchestrations are by Jonathan Tunick, Billy Byers and Hershy Kay and vocal arrangements are by Don Pippin.

The original production of A CHORUS LINE opened at the Public Theater's Newman Theatre on May 21, 1975 and transferred to Broadway's Shubert Theatre on July 25th, where it officially opened on Broadway on October 19th of that year. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Direction, Choreography, Actress, Supporting Actress, Score and Book, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. It ran for nearly 15 years, closing on April 28, 1990 after 6,137 performances.

I don't often say this, but this 'musical about dancers' is a must see.
