Charles Dickens' beloved story A Christmas Carol comes to life in a lavish Broadway-style production for the entire family at The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $30-$50 (with a limited number of "smart seats" priced at $10). Patrons who provide a non-perishable, non-refrigerated item for the Mayor's Feed the Hungry Campaign will receive a voucher that entitles the donor to receive $5 off the ticket price.

The show is produced by the famed Nebraska Theatre Caravan, which has been touring Charles Jones' delightful adaptation of the famed tale since 1979. The Caravan's A Christmas Carol features a spirited ensemble of 27 performers, elaborate costumes and a magical set that seems like a Christmas card come-to-life.

The heartwarming tale depicts Ebenezer Scrooge, whose values are focused exclusively on profit , and his conflicts with the struggling Cratchit family, whose tragic problems typified the working class during the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England. The touching climax is based on Dickens' belief that the ills of a greedy world can be healed by brotherhood and unselfishness.
When Charles Dickens wrote his "ghostly little tale" in 1843, he gave the world one of its most enduring Christmas stories. This show by the Nebraska Theatre Caravan is the most widely produced production of Dickens' in the nation. Every year it is seen by more than 100,000 people in over 60 cities across the country.

The show is sponsored by Boar's Head and Comcast.
Drop-off locations for the Mayor's Feed the Hungry Campaign and the $5 discount voucher are: Van Wezel ticket office, Sarasota Federal Building and City Hall (1565 1st St.), Sarasota Police Dept. (2071 Ringling Blvd.) and Boars Head corporate offices (1819 Main St.). Vouchers will be provided up until the date of the show, Dec. 22.
