Set during a "hot as blazes" summer in Philadelphia, "1776" is the Tony Award-winning musical about the seminal act in American history: the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Sectional differences, pride and fear threaten the Declaration and the fledgling nation. Peter Stone and Sherman Edwards freely adapt the historical record to create an engaging, witty look at the events that lead up to the signing of this historic document. The production features a case of magnificent performers from our community with a score that features hits such as "Sit Down, John," "He Plays the Violin" and "Mama Look Sharp. "1776" is produced by The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse under the direction of Anastacia Hawkins-Smith and will be adapted to the King Center stage using the sets, costumes, lighting and sound from the production's previous successful run at The Playhouse.
