AJ Croce Concert Moves to Orpheum Stage

Today the Orpheum Theatre Group announced a venue change for AJ Croce's one-night engagement today, January 13th. Due to planned improvements to the Halloran Centre, the concert will be moved from the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education to the Orpheum Theatre for a cabaret-style performance.

Graceland Celebrates Elvis' Birthday, Priscilla Presley to Attend Grand Opening of New Complex

Graceland® celebrated Elvis' birthday as construction continues on schedule for the new, state-of-the-art "Elvis Presley's Memphis" entertainment complex across the street from the King of Rock 'n' Roll's Memphis mansion. Graceland guests, fans from around the world, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell officially celebrated with a proclamation of "Elvis Presley Day" on the front lawn of Graceland and by cutting the largest birthday cake in Graceland history. Other birthday events included concerts and panel discussions, with special guests including "Follow That Dream" movie co-stars Robin and Gavin Koon and award-winning filmmaker Andrew Solt, who made a number of acclaimed films and television specials about Elvis Presley. For the first time ever, birthday celebration events were hosted at Graceland's new AAA Four Diamond-rated resort hotel, The Guest House at Graceland. The birthday celebrations kickoff the 40th anniversary of Elvis' passing.

Playhouse on the Square presents the world premiere of Adam Seidel's beautiful new work, Other People's Happiness. On a weekend trip to the family cabin, Sara tells John that after 30 years of marriage, she is leaving him for a much younger man. Her decision leaves her entire family in chaos, causing the audience to ask the question, "When you give up your happiness for everyone else, what is your breaking point?" Other People's Happiness is a play about blind devotion, failed expectations, the redefining of family, and the enduring nature of love. Other People's Happiness is a winner of the 2015 NewWorks@TheWorks Playwriting competition.

Hitchcock Spoof Steps Onto Theatre Memphis Stage

The 39 Steps, a parody of the Alfred Hitchcock film of the same name, will be opening at Theatre Memphis on the Lohrey Stage January 20, 2017, and running through February 5, 2017. Directed by Tony Isbell, this comedic melodrama takes the film's serious spy story and plays it mainly for laughs. Four actors play all the many characters as they have romantic entanglements and lightning-fast quick changes as villains, heroes, men, women and the occasional inanimate object.

It's the time of year to reflect on the past and enjoy familiar stories that warm our hearts. In otherwords, 'tis the season for ANNIE. That spunky waif has been part of our American culture for more than 130 years. She was first penned into existence by poet James Whitcomb Riley in 1885. His poem, 'Little Orphant Annie',was inspired by Mary Alice 'Allie' Smith, an orphaned child who came to live in the Riley home.

Miserly and rich Ebenezer Scrooge is approached by the ghostly vision of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him of an upcoming spiritual journey. An eye opening exploration leads to happiness and enlightenment, not to mention song, dance, and holiday cheer.

With a healthy dose of sarcasm and snark, Crumpet manages to reveal the shortcomings of the hustle and bustle surrounding the holidays while gently reminding us of the true meaning of the season. This intimate cabaret-style performance is a night at the theatre like no other.
