Penobscot Theatre wants to go on vacation with YOU! Dream, imagine, and discover at our exciting day camp for ages 5 - 12. During the week of April 15th, students are invited to join us from 9 - 3 to explore various topics relating to theater. Camp is highly flexible as campers are able to sign up for any or all days of our prograM. Camp will be lead by Director of Education Jasmine Ireland and Resident Teaching Artist Benjamin Layman. Each day of camp will focus on a particular aspect of theater while maintaining the following format.

Camp Day Format:

Morning warm-ups, games, get to know each other

"Today's Lesson" - the topic of the day will be taught by head instructors

A "hands-on" project - a DIY project your student creates relating "Today's Topic"

Guest artist chat - An artist from the community will come to speak with students
Lunch

Create Time - Students are up on their feet creating a play, telling a story, rehearsing, etc.
Multi-media presentation - Featuring movies, music, and websites related to "Today's Topic"

"Final Performance" - We open up the classroom to parents and friends for students to present what they have learned/worked on throughout the day

Camp Day Topics:

Monday: Fairytales and Fables - A look at how our legends, stories, and mythology become theater with a strong focus on storytelling. Students will create their own "fractured fairytale" to create a new script for an old tale!

Tuesday: Shake it up with Shakespeare - Students will make Shakespeare come alive in new and modern ways. Sword fighting, movement, and ensemble building will bring the works of William Shakespeare from page to stage!

Wednesday: Musical Theatre - An examination of the components of musical theater including voice, movement, and styles. Students will work together to create a showstopping song and dance number!

Thursday: Puppetry - Students will be introduced to various forms of puppetry. By studying various techniques and building their own puppet, students will have created their own show by the end of the day!

Friday: Stagecraft Design Day - A behind the scenes look at what it takes to make a show happen. Covering topics including make-up, costuming, set construction, and design students will have a chance to create their own new characters. This day includes a backstage tour of the Bangor Opera House!
