Musical And Comedy Group, The Kinsey Sicks, To Perform At Penobscot Theatre Company Image

Penobscot Theatre Company is proud to present the award-winning musical and comedy group The Kinsey Sicks in their show Things You Shouldn't Say for two performances only at the Bangor Opera House on Friday, July 13th at 8 pm and Saturday, July 14th at 8 pm.

For the last 25 years, America's favorite "Dragapella" Quartet has served up a hilarious feast of harmonious music and naughty comedy to audiences across the country. This is the remarkable true story of four friends from San Francisco who had a life-changing epiphany at a Bette Midler concert that led them to form The Kinsey Sicks in an effort to find joy during the darkest days of the AIDS crisis. Now they're sharing their hilarious, inspiring and at times heartbreaking tale, and showing that hatred and deceit can be fought with humor and heart.

Things You Shouldn't Say was a smash hit in New York City where the Manhattan Digest described it as "stuffed with gleeful irreverence and hilarious parodies". Variety called it "riotously funny" and "sublime", Time Out (New York) hailed it as "ferociously creative" and "a must-see", while the New York Times declared that The Kinsey Sicks is "taking the cabaret world by storm." The group has performed at New York City's legendary Studio 54 and wowed audiences with a much-coveted extended run at the Las Vegas Hilton. They have recorded several albums, been profiled on national TV, including 20/20 and the CBS Early Show, and were the subjects of a cover feature in the New York Times as well as a profile in The New Yorker.

When The Kinsey Sicks began in 1993, its founders were a group of refugees from successful careers as professionals and activists. Original member Ben Schatz is a Harvard-trained civil rights lawyer, former Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and one-time presidential advisor on HIV issues. Local businesswoman, Laurie Osher, said, "I've known Ben since we were kids. I'm so pleased that my community here in Maine will have a chance to hear The Kinsey Sicks' fabulous four-part harmonies while laughing along with their clear-eyed analysis of our culture."

Tickets may be purchased online at www.penobscottheatre.org, by visiting the box office at 131 Main Street, Bangor, or by calling (207) 942-3333.
