Mad Horse Theatre Co Presents THE LATE HENRY MOSS 3/10-27

By:

Mad Horse Theatre Company is proud to present the Maine Premier of Sam Shepard's THE LATE HENRY MOSS. The play opens on March 10 and runs Thursday to Sunday through March 27. Performances will be at Lucid Stage in Portland.

In this latest installment of Shepard's celebrated cycle of "family" plays, two brothers meet up following the death of their estranged alcoholic father. As the brothers struggle to piece together the events surrounding his death, the elusiveness of memory and the legacy of dysfunction become apparent with devastating and violent consequences.

THE LATE HENRY MOSS features in its cast Mad Horse Company members Peter Brown and Burke Brimmer, and guest artists Matt Delamater, Karen Ball, and Harlan Baker.

Also appearing in the production is David Blair, in the role of Henry Moss. "Long time Portland theater-goers will remember David as the director of Vintage Repertory Theater in the 1990's," say director Chris Horton, "I am delighted that David will be making his return to the Portland stage in this production."

The family is a theme that Shepard has returned to repeatedly over his career, producing such acclaimed plays as TRUE WEST, CURSE OF THE STARVING CLASS, BURIED CHILD (for which he earned the Pulitzer Prize), FOOL FOR LOVE, and A LIE OF THE MIND.
"THE LATE HENRY MOSS is the most directly autobiographical of these plays," says Horton, "Shepard's father was plagued by alcoholism and the violence and anger that often accompany this life-destroying disease. Shepard approaches the subject matter with his typically dark humor, posing questions about this most important relationship in a man's life."

"...theater event of the year ... journey through classic Shepard country that is at once familiar and heartbreakingly new." -- The San Francisco Chronicle
