Hackmatack Playhouse producer Michael Guptill has announced the 2013 (42nd year) show schedule for this summer. According to Guptill, "We hope you plan to join us this summer. We have "The Hound of the Baskervilles, "The Sound of Music," "Les Miserables," and "Driving Miss Daisy."
"The Hound of the Baskervilles" will run June 21 through July 6. According to Guptill, "The Sherlock Holmes masterpiece gets a gloriously funny makeover as Hackmatack spoofs the famous detective in the style of our popular production of "The 39 Steps". A cast of three perform all the roles as they unravel a mystery with comedy and slapstick.
"The Sound of Music" is scheduled July 10 to July 27. One of Broadway's most popular shows returns to the Hackmatack stage! The story of a high-spirited postulant who becomes a governess for a widow with seven children and their narrow escape from the Nazis is thrilling, inspirational and features many beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein songs including "Climb Every Mountain", "My Favorite Things" and "The Sound of Music."
Les Miserables will run July 31 to August 17. This international smash hit based on the novel by Victor Hugo may be the most popular musical in the world. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but sees nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert who refuses to believe that Valjean can change his ways. With the backdrop of the French Revolution, the story is grand and uplifting - and the music packs a thrilling emotional wallop: A powerful affirmation of the human spirit.
Driving Miss Daisy will wrap-up the season August 21 to August 30. In the American South, Daisy, a wealthy Jewish woman, and her African-American chauffeur, have a relationship that grows and improves over the years in this heart-warming and emotional comedy/drama.
The Hackmatack barn theatre, the Bison (The Guptill family homestead housing Hackmatack Playhouse is also a working Bison farm), the music, comedy and the pies are in the not too distant future when Hackmatack Playhouse opens their 42nd season this summer.
Most shows run at 8:00PM, Wednesdays through Saturdays. There are also 2:00PM matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays. Tickets and 2013 Hackmatack Playhouse 'Flexi-Passes" are now available as this show season announcement is made.
Hackmatack Playhouse continues a tradition of affordable ticket prices with student, senior, and group discounts. Individual ticket prices are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors, Thursday senior special of $20, and $10 for students under age 20. Tickets are available on-line atwww.Hackmatack.org or by phone, 207-698-1807.
