Hello, Dolly!, Hackmatack Playhouse's season finale, opened Wednesday with a packed house and a standing ovation. The applause continued after the show when the cast arrived at the opening night party at Uno Chicago Grill in Somersworth.

Scott Smith plays Dolly Levi. Scott has toured nationally and internationally from his home base of New York City. He is no stranger to the Hackmatack stage, however. He played Max in "The Producers" last summer, and was in "Into the Woods." "Seussical," "Secret Garden," "South Pacific," "Pirates of Penzance," and "The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Scott is a board member of the Native Aliens Theatre Collective in New York.

"Dolly" runs through Saturday, August 28 in the converted barn theatre; known to many as one of New England's most charming and quaint summer theatres, The Hackmatack Playhouse. (Route 9, Berwick, Maine)

Hello, Dolly! features music by Jerry Herman, based on Thornton Wilder's 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and re-titled The Matchmaker in 1955. Hello, Dolly! was first produced on Broadway by David Merrick in 1964, winning 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It is considered one of the most enduring musicals having three Broadway revivals and success all over the world.

Hello, Dolly!  is the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi's efforts to marry the well-known Horace Vandergelder. There's matchmaking, train travel from Yonkers to New York City, money mayhem, and an abundance of acting and music stressing the joy of life.

Due to "Dolly's" popularity, extra shows have been added. Contact the box office for details.

Post-season, "Cox and Box" and "Bon Appétit" are featured during Hackmatack's annual Labor Day weekend light opera.

Hackmatack Playhouse continues a tradition of affordable ticket prices with student, senior, and group discounts. Tickets and more information are available on-line at www.Hackmatack.org or by phone, 207-698-1807.
