HAIRSPRAY, the winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical that takes place in Baltimore, 1962. Social outcast, Tracy Turnblad, makes her dream come true by winning a coveted spot on the popular local dance program, the Corny Collins Show. She instantly becomes a local celebrity and has to defend her spot on the dance show from rival Amber Von Tussel and Amber’s snobbish mother Velma. She does all of this while winning the attention of teen heartthrob Link Larkin and simultaneously shedding light on the integration issues of the time. The show’s songs include 1960’s style rhythm and blues and popular 60’s style dance music.
Georgette Kleier directs this huge, fun musical with choreography by Gail Benedict and musical direction by Tim Murner.
