WHOS AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF Is 3rd Aurora Script Club Meeting 4/27
Berkeley?s acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company presents the third Aurora Script Club meeting of the season with Edward Albee?s Who?s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Aurora Theatre Company Education Director Michael Mansfield hosts this moderated discussion about two modern dramatists who were considered by many to be ahead of their time, examining the social-sexual parallels of the upcoming Aurora Theatre Company production of August Strindberg?s Miss Julie, written in 1888, and Albee?s seminal drama, penned in 1962.
The Aurora Script Club was conceived and developed by Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross.
Miss Julie is the volatile daughter of a count. During the intoxication of a midsummer?s eve celebration, she attempts to escape the confines of aristocracy and flirts shamelessly with one of her male servants, whom she eventually seduces. What begins as a playful contest for control rapidly escalates into an erotic dance of sexual politics and class warfare. Mark Jackson, who directed Aurora Theatre Company?s stunning production of Salome, returns to helm a memorable take on Miss Julie, playing April 3 through May 10 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley.
Monday, April 27, 7:30pm
