Vernissage Presents A Joint Exhibition Of Paintings By Hooper C. Dunbar And Sarah Robarts

By:

Vernissage Art Advisory presents an exhibition of paintings by artist and author Hooper C. Dunbar and Sarah Robarts on Friday, September 7 from 6pm - 8pm at Castelli Art Space in Los Angeles. The following day, the gallery will hold another reception from 2pm - 4pm.

This collaborative display of paintings stems from an interminable friendship between the two artists. Actively involved in the Baha'i community, Dunbar and Robarts have worked together over several decades. This upcoming collaboration marks their second joint exhibition, with their first being last year. Dunbar and Robarts' friendship and artwork have intertwined and grown over the past 20 years, and their paintings continue to interact with each other, creating bold, thought-provoking art along the way.

Dunbar, an accomplished painter whose works have shown in Europe, Asia, Israel and beyond, paints in his studios in northern California and Spain. His abstract paintings explore the landscape of the inner self and bring vision to a voiceless mindset.

"From my perspective, abstract is a direct representation of our deep-seated thoughts and feelings. For years, I have drawn inspiration from the works of earlier artists and thinkers, including such Baha'i artists as Mark Tobey," Dunbar said.

His works have been characterized as "the descent of light," light being a constantly recurring element of his images. Canadian abstract painter, Otto Rogers, describes Dunbar's work as possessing a "strong supernatural light presence that seems to transcend style."

Robarts holds a B.F.A. from Queen's University in Canada, and has successfully showcased her work in galleries worldwide. As an influential woman in business, Robarts continues to paint in her studio in Los Angeles with elements of femininity and strength.

"Art has always been my first love. Painting has consistently remained a passion and necessity in my life. I am thrilled to work with Hooper for the second year in a row, showing Los Angeles our artwork," said Robarts.

Both painters have been exhibiting their large-scale, vivid canvases for decades. With a broad spectrum of color and meticulous technique, their individual artworks complement each other perfectly. The artists invite viewers to examine their paintings up close, and then distance themselves for the full effect of abstract expressionism mixed with Western mid-century modernity and contemporary ideals.

The combined works of Hooper C. Dunbar and Sarah Robarts will premiere Friday, September 7, and will remain on view through Sunday, September 9, 10am - 6pm daily, 5428 W. Washington Blvd.
