UMPO Series Continues At Rockwell Table & Stage With Unauthorized Musical Parody Of CLUELESS

UMPO Series Continues At Rockwell Table & Stage With Unauthorized Musical Parody Of CLUELESS Image The wildly successful UMPO series continues its winning streak at Rockwell Table and Stage with The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Clueless. The show, which runs May 3 - September 1, 2018, parodies the 1995 comedy classic, which catapulted Alicia Silverstone to superstardom. Rockwell revisits the teen movie that defined a decade and updates it with some clever twists that are sure to keep the laughs coming. Brush up on your lingo and get your courageous fashion efforts ready for a joyous 90's throwback in an immersive, live theatre experience, complete with Rockwell's delicious food and craft cocktails.

As in the movie, this UMPO production focuses on Cher Horowitz - a well-intentioned but superficial girl - who is attractive, popular and extremely wealthy. A few months' shy of her sixteenth birthday, Cher and her best friend, Dionne rule the high school social scene. These girls have it all and breeze through life oblivious to the big picture problems of the world. When new girl, Tai, arrives at the school, Cher and Dionne take it upon themselves to makeover their new friend, transforming her from bland to full-blown Betty. Along the way, Cher plays matchmaker, using her charm and smarts help her friends and teachers find love - and to improve not only her grades, but also the world around her.

The diverse cast features favorites from Broadway, film, and television, including Rockwell veterans Garrett Clayton (NBC's Hairspray Live!, Teen Beach Movie), Ashley Argota (The Fosters, Cover Versions), Anna Grace Barlow (Fox's Scream Queens, The Fosters), Natalie Lander (The Middle, Disney's Goldie & Bear), and Morgan Smith (HBO's Veep, the national face of Wendy's).

Making his Rockwell directorial debut, Jimmy Smagula (Broadway's Man of La Mancha, Billy Elliott, and The Full Monty, as well as the film Rebel in the Rye) crafts a hilarious and high-energy romp, packed with 90's power hits and plenty of pop culture nostalgia - performed by a dynamic cast of Bettys and Baldwins with strong comedy chops and even stronger vocals.

Says UMPO series creator/writer, Kate Pazakis, "The UMPO series has provided SoCal film and theatre lovers a chance to relieve many cinematic moments in a style all its own. This production is no different, but it's especially gratifying to have film director Amy Heckerling's well-researched life of real Beverly Hills high school students as our foundation for this parody. We can't wait to pay homage to her iconic characters and vernacular on stage at here at Rockwell!"
