The Trudl Zipper Dance Institute presents Tap Fest, an exciting day of free events on Sunday, April 10, 2011 on The Colburn School's downtown Los Angeles campus. This celebration of all things ‘tap' includes a tap improv jam, performances, panels, master classes, workshops and more, all led by tap's best and brightest teachers and performers.

During Tap Fest, the Trudl Zipper Dance Institute will unveil a new portable dance floor, funded entirely by outside donations. Previously, the dance institute had to secure costly rental floors for performances outside of Colburn dance gallery spaces, which included yearly performances at MOCA's Big Family Day and other community events. In addition to eliminating this cost for currently scheduled events, the new portable floor will allow Colburn dancers to participate in expanded outreach efforts to the community. Funds for the new floor were led by an initial donation from the Colburn Dance Council, a volunteer group of supporters for the Trudl Zipper Dance Institute. An additional appeal to the dance community at large proved highly successful: the goal of $7,700 needed to fund the floor was exceeded by several thousand dollars.

Guest presenters, performers and teachers for Tap Fest will include: Fred Strickler, Bob Scheerer, Channing Cook-Holmes, Rusty Frank, Linda Sohl-Ellison, Tap con Sabor, everybody dance!, Steve and Carol Zee and Colburn tap faculty Denise Scheerer, Hiroshi Hamanishi, Sarah Reich and Angel Pennington. Events will include: panel discussions, historical presentations and film footage, professional development workshops, performances, and a tap improv jam. In addition, to these free events, there are also several master classes available for a small fee.
