Theatre Unleashed to Support Diabetes Research With Proceeds From TARTUFFE, Running 3/15-4/19

By:

Theatre Unleashed is excited to continue its mission of partnering with local charities and organizations to help give back to the community by teaming up with JDRF, the worldwide leader in Type 1 Diabetes research. TU will donate a portion of its total box office sales for its upcoming Main Stage show Tartuffe (running March 15-April 19) to help fund the organization and its mission.

"We're very proud of the fact that we work with so many incredible organizations with each show we do...and this one hits pretty close to home," said Jim Martyka, Director of Development for TU. "We have a former member and good friend of the company who is suffering from complications due to his Type 1 Diabetes. Once we found JDRF, we knew this was an organization we wanted to work with for this show."

JDRF is the world's largest charitable supporter of T1D, funding research to both find a cure and improve the lives of those suffering from T1D. Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.7 billion to diabetes research.

"JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered," said Sue Pietrzak, a development manager with JDRF. "We're very excited to work with Theatre Unleashed to continue on that mission."

This show marks the first time Theatre Unleashed has worked with JDRF. In the past, TU has partnered with organizations like Toys for Tots, Write Girl and the L.A. Food Bank to name a few. JDRF, who works with organizations all over the world, will also host a Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on November 15. It's the organization's biggest event of the year and part of a national effort that is expected to raise $85 million for JDRF. More information about the event and the organization can be found at www.jdrf.org.

In Tartuffe, Moliere's master work, the religious fraud Tartuffe has fooled the wealthy but naive Orgon, who is ready to award him his daughter's hand in marriage. But the wily and wicked "imposter" has his sights set on even loftier goals, including seducing his host's wife, ruining the family name and taking over the household.
