Theatre Tribe Presents HERALDS

By:

The multi award-winning THEATRE TRIBE is thrilled to present a World Premiere Play, HERALDS, written by Jon Cellini (The Intern) and directed by Ovation Award-winner Stuart Rogers (A Skull in Connemara, The Long Christmas Ride Home). HERALDS will preview on Thursday, November 4 and will open on Friday, November 5 at Theatre Tribe, 5267 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood.

On his first day as Executive Editor of the struggling Kansas City Herald, Joe Clarke approves an editorial cartoon that lampoons Creationism. Soon, local religious leaders, the community, and most importantly, the advertisers, rise up in revolt. The idealistic new editor is determined not to retract and clutches to his belief in the freedom of the press and must suffer the consequences, both expected and unexpected, in an intolerant, violent world. In Theatre Tribe's new world premiere, HERALDS, censorship (both past and very present)) threatens to silence the voice of independent journalism, and maybe, all of us.

JON CELLINI (Playwright) graduated from the University of Kansas with a playwriting scholarship and moved onto New York where he studied at Circle in the Square. His feature "All Alone," produced by Bananaseat Films, recently wrapped post and is targeting an early 2011 premiere. His feature "Robbing Bingo" won the Grand Prize in Script Magazine's Open Door Screenwriting contest and is in preproduction. His play, The Intern, produced by Theatre Tribe, was a Critic's Choice by the L.A. Times, which described the piece as "gripping, original and hauntingly effective."

Stuart Rogers (Director) Since founding Theatre Tribe in 1999, Stuart has directed a string of

their hit plays including The Los Angeles premier of Martin McDonagh's A Skull in Connemara (Critics' Choice LA Times, 7 Ovation nominations, including Best Director). Paula Vogel's, The Long Christmas Ride Home, for which he received the Ovation Award for Best Direction of a Play), Craig Wright's Recent Tragic Events (LA Times Critic's Choice), the World Premiere of The Intern (LA Times Critics' Choice) and the West-Coast Premieres of two Lanford Wilson plays: Sympathetic Magic (LA Times Critic's Choice) and Book of Days. He won a Los Angeles Drama Critic's circle award for the latter.

Film directing credits include, Dirty Mary, the first film of The Film Wing. Dirty Mary has been accepted in over thirty film festivals nation-wide and won awards at more than twenty of them. Stuart is in post-production with two additional short films that her wrote and directed for The Film Wing as well. He has taught acting classes at the Theatre Tribe Studio Theatre for the last thirteen years. Presently, both current and former students are network and cable television series regulars, acting on Broadway and performing in big budget feature films. His students have won Emmys, Golden Globes and received Tony Award Nominations. Stuart has also taught classes at UCLA, the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum and Chelsea Studios in Manhattan.
The cast of HERALDS features Jeff Kerr McGivney, Rob Mathis, Annie Tedesco, Lisa Pescia, Maia Danzinger, Pete Gardner, Peter Trencher, Steve Hofvendahl, Jack Krizmanich, Antonio Leon, Andy Bloch, Heather Robinson, Tina Spears and Tyler Lueck
The production has assembled an award-winning design team. The Set Design is by Jeff McLaughlin. The Sound Design is by Noah Drew. HERALDS will be produced by Bart Petty.
