The Grove Theatre Releases Urgent Plea for Funds

Just in from the Grove Theatre is a plea for funds as the theatre is in dire financial straights.

Dear Grove Theatre Supporters:

We have a situation that requires immediate action about the future of The Grove. As you may know, the City of Upland Community Redevelopment Agency (RDA) was dissolved by the California Legislature on February 1, 2012, as were all RDA agencies throughout the state.

The RDA held our second mortgage on the Theatre building from 1998 through 2012. The original $525,000 has been paid down to $162,464. A few days ago, the legal counsel for the RDA Successor Agency called the note, making a "formal demand" for the $162,464 to be paid in full by September 1st, 2013. If not paid, they stated they will take "what action is necessary" and included the wording "litigation to recover such funds".

We have 30 days to raise the funds in order to avoid litigation and risk losing the building. We are asking that you will make any amount of a tax-deductable donation to The Grove Theatre and Academy, our 501(C)3 Non-Profit Organization.

For 23 years, The Grove has been self-sufficient with the help of you, our supporters, without any formal grants. Our community theatre worked hard through the years and struggled through the downturn in the economy since 2007 to preserve the performing arts and our children's theatre programs. This is the first time in 23 years that we have formally asked you for financial help. We need your support at this time - please help us continue this legacy.
