After their sold-out, award-winning 2013 production of Tommy Smith's WHITE HOT, The Vagrancy presents the "talented dramatic anarchist's" newest provocative tale - THE WIFE paired with Euripides' MEDEA, adapted, conceived and directed by Co-Artistic Director Caitlin Hart for a feverish season exploring the minds of outsiders. Partnered with the season, The Vagrancy continues their commitment to new play development with TACTICAL READS, RITUALS and BLOSSOMING.
THE WIFE is a wicked web spun between a young black girl, her lonely, drug-addicted mother, a hip, dangerous professional and a Hasidic couple wrestling with the their loveless marriage. THE WIFE's dynamic characters experience sadness yet their fearful societal standards prevent them from human connection and healing their wounds. THE WIFE's controversial LA Premiere lands at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2014 in the intimate Asylum Lab June 5-29 under the direction of Co-Artistic Director Sabina Ptasznik. Based on the myth of Jason and Medea, MEDEA offers one of Greek Literature's most infamous and complicated leading ladies as she struggles with abandonment and betrayal. Director Caitlin Hart adapts the text to highlight and explore magic, Medea's relationship with her children and the inherent spectacle of the play. MEDEA seduces audiences Oct. 11- Nov 2 at Studio/Stage in Hollywood. TACTICAL READS discovers promising, un-produced plays by female playwrights and pairs them with female directors to further develop the material - culminating in staged readings and talkbacks with the female artists. TACTICAL READS plays every other month at different venues across the city. Next up is Rachel Skytt's new play about the world's mourning of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson IS DEAD (HEE-HEE), at Theater Asylum on January 26th at 7pm.Videos
