LA Stage Alliance Executive Director Steven Leigh Morris will receive the Gordon Davidson Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Los Angeles Theatrical Community from the LA Drama Critics Circle. The 49th annual LADCC awards ceremony is set for Monday, March 19, at A Noise Within in Pasadena. Established by the LADCC in 2016, the Gordon Davidson Award is accompanied by an honorarium funded by Center Theatre Group. Morris will be the second recipient of the honor.
Said Terry Morgan, co-producer of this year's LADCC ceremony, "Steven's many years as theatre editor and lead critic at the LA Weekly, along with founding the community-funded digital arts venture Stage Raw, and his current position as the Executive Director at LA Stage Alliance, have proven him to be one of the stalwarts of LA theatre. His editorial focus on covering and celebrating the incredible diversity of the 99-seat theatre scene, his deep connection to and advocacy for the arts, and his brilliance as a writer and critic are unparalleled. The LADCC is proud to show its appreciation by presenting him with the Gordon Davidson Award."
Morris joined LA Stage Alliance in 2015 after more than 25 years as a theatre reviewer and essayist in Los Angeles. His feature stories have been published in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, American Theatre Magazine, and many others. Since becoming LASA Executive Director, Morris has focused on the sustainability of the Los Angeles theatre community. LASA has partnered with NPO Solutions and The Ahmanson Foundation to develop a three-year, three-phase suitability project.
