South Coast Rep and La Jolla Playhouse Partner with CTG for NEVA at Kirk Douglas Theatre, Now thru 6/16
NEVA, written and directed by Guillermo Calderón, in an English translation by Andrea Thome, will be co-produced by the South Coast Repertory and La Jolla Playhouse in A DouglasPlus Workshop Presentation in the Kirk Douglas Theatre rehearsal room, Upstairs @ KDT. Performances begin tonight, June 11 and continue through June 16, 2013.
In a politically charged, haunting look at theatre and the revolutionary impulse, writer/director Guillermo Calderón's "Neva" takes audiences to St. Petersburg in 1905. Anton Chekhov's widow, the actress Olga Knipper, is huddled with fellow actors in a dimly lit rehearsal room, while striking workers are being gunned down by the tsarist regime in the streets outside. Chile's Teatro en el Blanco's Spanish language production of "Neva" was one of the highlights of the Radar L.A. festival in June 2011. Center Theatre Group, in collaboration with South Coast Repertory and La Jolla Playhouse, presents the West Coast premiere of the English translation of "Neva" as part of DouglasPlus.
The show will play one preview performance tonight, June 11 at 8 p.m. and opens Wednesday, June 12 at 8 p.m. Regular Performances (through June 16): Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
