She NYC Arts, creator of New York City's only festival devoted to producing full-length plays, musicals, and adaptations by women writers annually, will be launching a new Los Angeles branch called She L.A. Arts.

She L.A. will host its first Summer Theater Festival in July of 2018, immediately following She NYC's third annual Summer Theater Festival.

Writers who wish to to be considered for the LA Festival should submit their shows via the She NYC website before the deadline on November 1st, 2017 at 11:59pm. In the submission form, their will be an option to select their preferred Festival location.

"In 2017, out of our eight Festival shows, three of the writing teams were from the west coast," says Danielle DeMatteo, She NYC Arts Executive Producer. "Clearly there's a need for a program like this in California. We're so grateful for the chance to make our She NYC community bicoastal."

Two of the L.A. branch's co-producers, Nakisa Aschtiani and Kristy Thomas, were writers who flew to New York to participate in the 2017 Summer Theater Festival. "It was such an amazing opportunity that I wanted to bring the experience to the west coast in hopes that we can open it up to more female writers," Aschtiani says. "It is such a wonderful and exciting event for everyone involved!"

"I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the finalists in the 2017 She NYC Festival and it was a great experience as a writer as well as the producer of my show," adds Thomas. "The crew at She NYC was amazing and I had a wonderful time. I'm super excited to be a part of bringing She to LA!"

Dates and venue for the She L.A. Summer Theater Festival will be announced soon.

Started in 2015, She NYC Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded to level the playing field for women writers and composers in the theater industry. Its commitment to an open submissions process allows it to discover and cultivate the best up-and-coming talent in the industry. The 2017 Festival presented eight new works at the Connelly Theater in the heart of the East Village, and submissions are now open for the 2018 Summer Theater Festival.
