By:

Receiving honors two years in a row with a Best Production Award, most recently from Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, LA Weekly, Ovation, and Garland Awards for Small Engine Repair, Rogue Machine will now present a new work by playwright Enda Walsh, THE NEW ELECTRIC BALLROOM.

Three sisters trapped by the past, the future, and each other. In a remote fishing village on the west coast in Ireland, Breda, Clara, and Ada are haunted with days gone by at The New Electric Ballroom, They relive the time their dreams were crushed. Can love rescue one of them?

Enda Walsh (Playwright) just garnered more nods for his work Once, with eleven 2012 Tony Award nominations. He shot to fame when he won both the George Devine Award and the Stewart Parker Award in 1997 with his play Disco Pigs. In 2007 and 2008 Enda won Fringe First Awards at two consecutive Edinburgh Festivals for his plays The Walworth Farce and The New Electric Ballroom. The former led the Guardian to name him "one of the most dazzling wordsmiths of Contemporary Theatre." His other plays include Penelope, Bedbound, The Ginger Ale Boy, Sucking Dublin, Misterman, The Small Things, Pondlife Angels, Chatroom, and Delirium. Since his initial success as a playwright, Enda has gone on to write for the screen. His 2008 biopic, Hunger, told the story of the final days of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands, and won a host of awards, including the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Heartbeat Award at the Dinard International Film Festival. It was nominated for seven BIFAs (including Best Screenplay), six British Film and Television Awards (including Best Screenplay and Best Independent Film) and BAFTA's Outstanding British Film Award 2009. Enda has since adapted his stage play, Chatroom, for the big screen.

THE NEW ELECTRIC BALLROON opens tonight, June 9th and runs Saturdays at 5, Sundays at 7, Mondays at 8pm through July 30, 2012 (no performance Monday, June 25th). ROGUE MACHINE is located at 5041 Pico Blvd., LA, CA 90019. Tickets are $30. Reservations: 855-585-5185 or at www.roguemachinetheatre.com.
