Center Theatre Group welcomes playwright Sheila Callaghan, a recipient of CTG's Fadiman Award for Playwriting, and local feminist scholars Sue-Ellen Case (UCLA) and Dr. Tiffany Ana López (UC Riverside) to the rehearsal room at the Kirk Douglas Theatre for a special one-night-only DouglasPlus event, Sandbox@CTG: "Feral Drives, Fierce Women" on Tuesday, April 14, at 8 p.m.

The evening will begin with a reading of a scene from Callaghan's play "Elevada" with actors Satya Bhabha ("Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," "New Girl") and Paco Tolson. "Elevada" premieres this spring at Yale Repertory Theatre. Following the reading, there will be a panel discussion about women, ambition and how our culture responds to women who go for what they want. Joining Callaghan for the discussion, will be Case, author of "Feminism and Theatre" and Chair of Critical Studies in UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television, and López, UC Riverside Professor of Theatre. The discussion will be moderated by CTG's literary manager Joy Meads.

Callaghan's plays have been produced and developed with Soho Rep, Playwrights Horizons, South Coast Repertory, Clubbed Thumb, The Lark, Actors Theatre of Louisville, New Georges, Woolly Mammoth and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, among others. These include "Scab," "Crawl Fade to White," "Crumble, (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake)," "We Are Not These Hands," "Dead City," "Lascivious Something," "Kate Crackernuts," "That Pretty Pretty; or, The Rape Play," "Fever/Dream," "Everything You Touch," "Roadkill Confidential" and "Women Laughing Alone with Salad." In 2010, Callaghan was profiled by Marie Claire as one of "18 Successful Women Who Are Changing the World."

Sandbox@CTG is a rare opportunity for audiences to meet CTG's family of artists and collaborators - thinkers and visionaries -- whose expertise, ideas and inventiveness have inspired each artist to dig deep and play freely.

Tickets for Sandbox@CTG: "Feral Drives, Fierce Women" are $10, and can be purchased online at www.CenterTheatreGroup.org or by calling (213) 628-2772. The Kirk Douglas Theatre is located at 9820 Washington Blvd. in Culver City, 90232.

This presentation is part of the DouglasPlus programming at the KDT. DouglasPlus provides the flexibility to explore new work and push boundaries through fully and minimally staged events, workshops and readings and traditional and non-traditional performance configurations.
