Photo Flash: First Look at Olio Theatre's OLD BLACK MAGIC: A HAUNTED MUSICAL
One night a year spirits dead n' gone rise up to walk the earth trying to find their way home. These wandering spirits are lost in limbo as penance for something they've left undone in life, unless they can find a sympathetic ear to life the burden. But don't be fooled, they're not innocent and havoc will arise when jealous lovers, ambitions ingénues and drunk has-beens clash, threatening to recreate the turmoil of their lives and keep them locked in limbo eternally. Ushered into the land of the living by Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, these celebrity ghosts are given one last chance to heal their "past life issues" or remain in limbo forever. Featuring the ghosts of John Barrymore, Jayne Mansfield, Edgar Allen Poe & more! The show runs January 31st - February 9th, 2014. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
With campy music, slapstick comedy and heartfelt discoveries, Olio Theatre Work's original musical comedy "Old Black Magic: A Haunted Musical" was performed annually in LA and Orange Counties from 2003 - 2007 in a variety of venues from former Seal Beach restaurant Bayou St. John (now 320 Main), Immanuel Center for Spiritual Living in Long Beach, and the Costa Mesa Playhouse, among others, proving to be one of OTWs most successful and memorable shows. This year will be no exception! Audiences can look forward to seeing familiar faces from the original 5-year run, as well as a few new favorites, and presented in a legendary Long Beach theatre: The Found Theatre, with over three-decades of dedication to excellence in the arts.Written and directed by OTW Artistic Director/Founder Terra Taylor Knudson and featuring original music by Terra Taylor Knudson with Lauren Nave, "Old Black Magic: A Haunted Musical" evokes the mists of the Louisiana bayous, the spine-tingling, toe tappin' jazz of New Orleans, and the haunted intrigue of the swampy cemeteries that make it a perfect match for Halloween.
