Photo Flash: Actors and Artists Unite to End Alzheimer's Soars in First Year as National Team

By:

Actors and Artists Unite to End Alzheimer's launched its first year as a national team in September with their new San Francisco team walking gallantly in the pouring rain on September 21st and will finish with their final team in Louisiana on November 9th. Scroll down for photos of their amazing year!

35 teams walked across the country -- 31 for the first time -- San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Washington DC, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Delaware Oxnard and Los Angeles, CA.

150 team members raised over $30,000 in 2013 bringing a grand total of over $80,000 that Actors and Artists Unite to End Alzheimer's has raised since 2011 as a team for the Walk to End Alzheimer's sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association.

AA Unite was founded by Actor/Writer Nancy Daly in 2011 in honor of her own mom who died from Alzheimer's in May of 2012 and her dad who was her mom's caregiver.

"We walk to honor and remember those we have lost. We walk to bring comfort to those who are living with this disease and to bring support and camaraderie to those who are witnessing and caring for their loved ones as they fade into the darkness of Alzheimer's. We take care of our own. We have actors, writers, directors, producers, crew and friends and families across the country walking together united in one goal- a cure in our lifetime. The end of Alzheimer's. This team is made up of heroes. A member of our Miami team walked with her mom -- a Holocaust survivor. It was her first time on the walk. As everyone raised their promise flowers, she cried, saying: 'For years -- I never saw a garden and now I'm in this beautiful garden -- this garden of hope.' For two weeks, we had no idea if we would even have a walk in DC due to the government shutdown. A member of our team was determined to raise $1200 and walk in honor of his Nana anyway. He posted pictures of her on facebook -- his friends shared his link and the pictures and he met his goal in ten days. As the National Team Captain, I am so grateful to BroadwayWorld.com for their support of this team. Four actors joined our New York team this year and five teams were founded around the country -- all because of the article that was posted about our team in September. So --thank you so much! We are very much looking forward to our second year as a national team and launching many more teams for our fellow actors and industry colleagues around the country. You can find our team on Facebook at 'Actors and Artists Unite to End Alzheimer's'. On behalf of our team -- as we Irish would say -- slainte!"
