ABOUT DANNY AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA

Ronnie Marmo is thrilled to direct Danny and the Deep Blue. An explosive, deeply affecting study of alienation and the redemptive power of love, this provocative play from the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright "is the equivalent of sitting at ringside watching a prize fight that concludes in a loving embrace" (New York Times).

Director Marmo has a long professional history with Shanley and his work. As Artistic Director of the 68 Cent Crew Theatre Company, he produced the 6-month long 13 by Shanley Festival in 2009, during which he also played the title role of Danny. "I am extremely excited to revisit Danny and the Deep Blue Sea as director," Marmo says. "Seeing the material from this point of view has made me fall in love with the play even more. Our production is extremely powerful and affecting.

Ronnie Marmo has directed and produced over ninety plays, including the critically acclaimed West Coast premiere of A Time To Kill, which opened in November 2016 and enjoyed a three month run, Bill W. and Dr. Bob, which enjoyed 350+ sold out performances over the past twelve years, the world premiere of 86'd, the Los Angeles Premiere of Sam Shepard's The Late Henry Moss, the 40th anniversary production of Lovers and Other Strangers, the world premiere of John Patrick Shanley's Last Night In The Garden I Saw You, and his own play, West of Brooklyn. Ronnie was the Artistic Director and Producer of the critically acclaimed first ever 13 by Shanley Festival which enjoyed a six-month run. Ronnie has appeared in more than fifty feature films and television shows, and on stage Marmo has starred in more than thirty plays, including his portrayal of Lenny Bruce in the one-man production of Lenny Bruce is Back. Ronnie had a three-year run on ABC's General Hospital as Ronnie Dimestico. He was nominated as a producer by the NAACP Awards for the productions of The Knights of Mary Phagan and Subway Series. He received the Robert Pastorelli Rising Star Award for achievements as actor, writer, director and producer at the 2010 Garden State Film Festival. He continues to serve at the Artistic Director of the 68 Cent Crew Theatre Company (Theatre 68) in Los Angeles and New York City. Marmo is very excited to be directing Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, a play in which he played Danny during the 6-month run of the 13 by Shanley Festival.
