Pacific Symphony Performs Music for DIABLO III
Known for three of the world's biggest gaming franchises ("Warcraft," "Starcraft" and "Diablo") played by millions of people, Blizzard selected the Symphony to perform the soundtrack for one of the most anticipated video games of the past five years. More than 100 Symphony musicians came together last July in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, where the score was performed under the baton of Eímear Noone and recorded live by Blizzard for "Diablo III."

"It was important to give 'Diablo III' its own sound-not only via the compositions, but even in the manner in which it was recorded," says Blizzard Entertainment's Audio Director Russell Brower. "To complement the bronze-age sound of 'Warcraft' and the space-opera sound of 'StarCraft,' we decided to record this score in a concert hall that relies on the oldest acoustical traditions known to humankind, and with a world-class ensemble that performs together regularly as a group.
"When Blizzard Entertainment asked Pacific Symphony to record the soundtrack to 'Diablo III,' we could not have been more thrilled to collaborate with the world's leading video-game company," says Symphony President John Forsyte. "One of the most interesting sources of new symphonic scoring is video games and Blizzard has taken great pride in this aspect of the experience they offer users. The brilliance of the game is matched by the dramatic scoring.
"It was a great honor to work with their production team and record the new soundtrack in the glorious acoustics of the concert hall," Forsyte continues. "Musicians of Pacific Symphony are no stranger to film and commercial scoring, so I believe the Blizzard team was impressed with the dynamic performances, commitment to quality and efficiency with which our musicians approached the project. We were all grateful for the opportunity and look forward to future collaborations with Blizzard."
