Norris Theatre Presents LOVE, SEX AND THE IRS, Now thru 2/8

Palos Verdes Performing Arts presents the hilarious tax-evading comedy, Love, Sex and the I.R.S. tonight, January 23 - February 8 at the Norris Theatre on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The zany, fast-paced farce about a pair of bumbling tax cheats is filled with wild plot twists, lightning-quick sight gags, and a concoction of mistaken identities that rivals Shakespeare.

The production is directed by Ken Parks and produced by James Gruessing, and features Jeffrey Cannata as Jon; David Herbelin as Leslie; Bryan Dobson as Floyd Skinner; Shannon Fitzpatrick as Kate; Diane Vincent as Vivian; Elaine Hayhurst as Connie; Kevin Paul as Mr. Jansen; and Karl Jaecke as Arnold Grunion.

Love, Sex and the I.R.S.follows two heterosexual men, Jon and Leslie, who share an apartment in New York. To save money, Jon has been filing tax returns listing his roommate, Leslie, as his wife - but the day of reckoning comes when the I.R.S. informs the "couple" that they are being investigated. With the help of his fiancée - Kate, Jon dresses Leslie up to masquerade as his wife. Complicating matters further, Jon's mother unexpectedly drops in to meet her son's fiancée, and Leslie's girlfriend shows up demanding to know why he won't see her anymore. Add one unscrupulously nosy landlord to the bunch, and things quickly spiral into side-splitting confusion and chaos.

"The screwball comedy of 'Love, Sex and the I.R.S.' is like a cross between 'I Love Lucy,' 'Some Like it Hot,' and the sitcoms of the '70s, such as 'Three's Company,' said James Gruessing, artistic director at Palos Verdes Performing Arts. "With a name that includes three of the most disastrous entanglements known to man, this classic farce guarantees lots of laughs. It is the perfect antidote to the stress of tax season."

Written by actors Billy van Zandt and Jane Milmore, "Love, Sex and the I.R.S." premiered in 1978 has been produced in more than 10,000 theaters throughout the U.S. and internationally.
