On October 20th, the SRS Production Wing will debut its inaugural production of "a feminine ending," by Sarah Treem. Directed by Tyler Seiple on the Stuart Rogers' Studios stage, the play will run on Fridays and Saturdays through December 2nd. As a New Theatre Company in the North Hollywood community, the SRS Production Wing is launching itself with a humorous and touching exploration of gender and artistic creation, which feels ever more relevant in the post-2016 world.

An actor-generated and -run company, the SRS Production Wing believes Ms. Treem's text exemplifies the type of work they want to bring to the stage: intimate, story-driven, and connected to issues in their community. In many ways, this new company identifies with the play's protagonist, a young artist seeking to have an outsized impact on a world whose rules are often predetermined. At the same time, the company sees great potential in probing at the definitions and limitations of gender in today's cultural climate, an effort that is aided by Ms. Treem's gentle yet incisive wit.

"The themes of this story become more visible as we negotiate daily, through all types of media, our relationships with gender, on both personal and societal levels," Seiple writes. "For this production, we want to share a play that feels even more important now than when it debuted ten years ago - and largely due to the fact that our national discourse on gender norms has only recently begun to advance in the public eye." Through the narrative viewpoint of a female composer struggling to make music - and an extraordinary life - amid the demands of her society, the SRS Production Wing hopes to open a conversation about how we create meaning, both for ourselves and for others.

"a feminine ending" will run from October 20th to December 2nd at Stuart Rogers' Studios (5267 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, 91601). Shows start at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays (excepting November 24th and November 25th). Tickets will be available for $20 on www.brownpapertickets.com and for $25 at the box office, which opens thirty minutes before performances. Parking on neighboring streets is free after 6pm, though subject to limited availability. More information is available at www.afeminineending.com.
