Michelle Krusiec's MADE IN TAIWAN Comes to SOC, 9/14-21

By:

Shakespeare/Summerfest Orange County (SOC) at The Garden Grove Amphitheater continues its innovative 2014 season of One Big Family Under The Stars by presenting Michelle Krusiec, named by Hollywood Reporter as one of its Top Ten Rising Stars, nominated for China's Golden Horse Award for Best Actress (Oscar equivalent) for the feature film SAVING FACE, in the role that made her a star: MADE IN TAIWAN.

The production runs September 14, 20, and 21 at The Garden Grove Amphitheater, 12762 Main Street, Garden Grove, CA 92842. Box Office: (714) 590-1575 or online at www.shakespeareoc.org. Tickets: $25. Advisory: Teen Swearing.

John Walcutt, new Producing Artistic Director of SOC, follows the tremendous success of their season-opening production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM produced in association with Garden Grove's world-famous Polynesian dance troupe, Hitia O Te Ra.

Walcutt, who says that 80 percent of the audience coming to his theater this summer has never been there before, continues his stated mandate of building bridges in this community that speaks 76 different languages, and boasts a huge Chinese-American demographic.

"Bringing a Broadway caliber Star, and a Taiwanese-American star, on top of it, is a landmark event in our community," says Walcutt. "Everyone will find a common thread in Michelle's darkly comic coming of age story of what it is to be the daughter of a first generation Asian-American."

Michelle states: "We played to sold-out audiences at The NYC Fringe Festival and were named BEST OF THE FEST. And we were the hit of The Asian American Theatre Festival. Can't wait to see how it plays in Garden Grove! I'm thrilled to be a part of SOC 's SUMMERFEST."

In August, SOC presented TRIEU TRAN (UNPLUGGED), featuring Vietnamese-American actor Trieu Tran, as a benefit for VAALA- The Vietnamese American Arts And Letters Association. The event played to a near capacity crowd and was heavily covered by local Vietnamese TV News and print media. The audience at the Amphitheater was noticeably mixed ethnically, bringing in a large Viet/Am attendance in addition to SOC subscribers.

MADE IN TAIWAN originated as part of HBO's Aspen Comedy Festival.

Michelle Krusiec starred in David Henry Hwang's CHINGLISH at SCR and on the Broadway Tour. She's currently working on the HBO TV Seriea GETTING ON, opposite Laurie Metcalf. She has Guest-Starred on dozens of TV shows like CSI NY, ER, WEEDS, GREY'S ANATOMY, NCIS, and her long-running roles on the sitcom ONE WORLD, and as the star of Discovery Channel's TRAVELLER series. She's appeared in numerous films, including SAVING FACE, WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS, NIXON, NANKING, FAR NORTH, and SWEET HOME ALABAMA.
