Michael McKean to Host LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Awards, 11/3

Michael McKean will host the 24th annual LA Stage Alliance Ovation Awards ceremony on Sunday, November 3, at San Gabriel Mission Playhouse in San Gabriel, it was announced today. The curtain will rise at 7 pm.

McKean's most recent LA stage credit was the title role in Yes, Prime Minister, which opened in June at the Geffen Playhouse. He also appeared in Accomplice at the Pasadena Playhouse (1989) as well as on Broadway, South Pacific at the Hollywood Bowl (2007) and Harps and Angels at the Mark Taper Forum (2010).

"I'm thrilled to be hosting the Ovation Awards and helping to bestow upon the worthy the recognition they have earned on the boards of Los Angeles," said McKean. "LA Stage Alliance has promised me a t-shirt and a coffee mug, but I'm really doing it for the prestige."

McKean is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Lenny on the TV series Laverne & Shirley and his film roles inThis Is Spinal Tap, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind.

His theater credits outside LA include include appearances on Broadway and elsewhere in productions such as Gore Vidal's The Best Man, King Lear, Our Town, Superior Donuts, The Homecoming, The Pajama Game, Hairsprayand On the Razzle.

Besides Laverne & Shirley, his TV credits include Family Tree, Homeland, Law & Order: SVU, Castle, Happy Endings, Sesame Street, The X-Files, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Smallville.

He's an Oscar nominee (for best song, "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow," co-written with Annette O'Toole), a Grammy winner (title song for A Mighty Wind, co-written with Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy), and a Theatre World Award-winner (Accomplice).
