Long Beach Playhouse's LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Opens May 25

By:

The Long Beach Playhouse is closing its 2012 - 2013 Mainstage Season with the quirky and much-loved musical, Little Shop of Horrors. The production is directed by Andrew Vonderschmitt who also serves as The Playhouse Producing Artistic Director.

"At the heart of this play we find a story as old as time; boy meets girl, boy feeds girl to man eating plant," says Vonderschmitt. "It's a 1960s B Movie delivered live by an outstanding cast of actors and musicians. We haven't tried to 'artsy it up', or change the plot, setting or intention. I know the audiences are going to love it."

Vonderschmitt has chosen outstanding partners to help him including Musical Director Andy Zacharias. Zacharias' credentials include a master's degree in music composition from the Bob Cole Conservatory at CSULB and his original works have been featured on Showtime and HBO.

The production's choreographer is Halley Wright who studied at the Lionel Hampton School of Music and she performed at the Lewiston Civic Theatre for more than seven years.

The cast is a nice mix of new and returning actors. Audience members may recognize some of the cast from LBP productions as varied as Into the Woods, The Cyclops and Moon Over Buffalo.

Vonderschmitt is having a great time with the season's closing musical."Directing this play has been on my bucket list for several years and I am beyond thrilled to work with the amazingly talented people who are giving everything they've got to make this production sing, no pun intended."
