For its ninth production of its 2016 season, Little Fish Theatre is proud to announce the opening of What the Night is For, directed by Branda Lock and written by Michael Weller. An Academy Award nominee for his adapted screenplay of Ragtime, Weller is the author of more than 40 produced plays, is a professor at The New School in New York, and was a writer-producer on TV's acclaimed series "Once and Again." What the Night is For captures the emotions of a ten-year reunion after a passionate affair.

What begins as a casual meal and an evening of catching up between Lindy and Adam turns into a humorous, passionate and moving voyage towards a moment that could change the lives of two former lovers. Lindy broke off the affair more than ten years ago to save her tedious marriage to a businessman. Adam is now a successful architect, happily married and purportedly on a business trip to Lindy's homestate. As they try to reconnect over a bumbling dinner at a hotel, the question surfaces -- can they renew what they once had and start again, together. "Weller weaves a play both painfully honest and unexpectedly funny." - THE GUARDIAN

Lindy is played by Stephanie Schulz, a LFT Company Member who appeared in Real Estate and Marriage is Murder. Schulz was named one of the Best Actresses in the "Best of OC Theatre" series by Examiner.com for her performance in The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Adam is played by Andrew Oliveri, a newcomer to Little Fish Theatre. Oliveri studied and worked in theater in the San Francisco Bay area for 10 years, where he played Amedeo Modigliani at the Wayward Souls Repertory Theatre in Oakland in their production of Modigliani and as Jerry at the Meisner Studio Players production of Betrayal.

What the Night is For is directed by Branda Lock, who directed two pieces in Pick of the Vine, Little Fish Theatre's perennial best-selling festival of short plays. Lock is a company member at Infinite Jest Theatre Company, where she recently directed Major Barbara and Five Women Wearing the Same Dress. "What excites me most about this play is the fear - the fear these two characters carry with them from the past, the fear they are dealing with during the play itself, and mostly the fear of their future with or without each other in their lives," states Lock. "I am very struck by what a central role fear plays in infidelity, love, and regret - and I hope the audience will take this away with them as well."

What the Night is For will run September 29 through October 20 on select Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8:00pm, with two Sunday matinees on October 2 and 9 at 2:00pm. The October 2 matinee features a special Talkback session where the creative team will be available for 10 to 15 minutes for a post-show discussion with the audience.
