The famed Los Angeles group of "Larry Nash & The Jazz Symphonics" will perform Tuesday (May 24) in the Mid-Summer Nights Jazz Concerts Under the Stars Series at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center in Leimert Park.

Pianist Nash formed the "The Jazz Symphonics" as a teenager living in Los Angeles and wrote the majority of the songs on its ground-breaking album "The Beginning," released in 1968. Nash has played in varied music genres, including as a member of the LA Express backing up Joni Mitchell's "Miles of Aisles" live album in 1974 and on Eddie Harris' "Excursions."

"Larry Nash and the Jazz Symphonics remain true to their roots, dedicated to jazz they pioneered in Los Angeles," BMPAC founder Barbara Morrison said. "They are wonderful and powerful to listen and enjoy. We're very happy to have them in our mid-summer concert series."

The series runs every Tuesday through July 26 with different artists in the park across the courtyard from Morrison's Performing Arts Center at 4305 Degnan Boulevard, Suite 101. Upcoming shows in the Mid-Summer Nights Jazz Concerts Under the Stars series include "Sax Man Cal Bennett" on May 31, famed trumPeter Nolan Shaheed on June 7, Lionel Cole, son of Freddy Cole and nephew of Nat King Cole and a former member of Mariah Carey's band, on June 14, world-class trumpet player and UCLA educator Dr. Bobby Rodriguez on June 21 and "Chester Whitmore's Big Band" on June 28.

Discount tickets for the series are $10 and available at www.Goldstar.com. Tickets are also available for $20 at www.BarbaraMorrison.com or at the door. For more information, go to www.bmpac.org.
