La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts kicks off its 2012-13 Programs for Young Audiencesseries with Magik Theatre's Treasure Island. This 60-minute, exciting musical adventure is recommended for audiences ages 4 and up.Performances are Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
 
Sail aboard the HMS Hispaniola with young Jim Hawkins for a daring adventure on Treasure Island. In a conflict between good and evil, Jim courageously faces danger, learns that evil can masquerade as good, and matures from a boy into manhood. Join him, the good doctor, the squire, sinister Blind Pew, marooned Ben Gunn, the infamous Long John Silver and a colorful crew of buccaneers for this exciting musical adventure.
 
Based on the 1883 classic adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island is adapted for the stage and directed by David Morgan with original music by Ricky Hernandez and costumes by Stevie Tardiff.
        
Magik Theatre was created in 1994 as a voice for young people and families throughout the region.  With Richard Rosen as Executive Director, Magik Theatre's mission is to provide extraordinary and affordable professional theatre and educational experiences for children and adults as well as to develop a child's love and understanding of theatre and literature.
 
La Mirada Theatre's Programs for Young Audiences is designed to give children exposure to a diverse mix of national and international touring stage acts while enriching their lives. The season will continue with LA Opera's The Magic Dream on February 17, 2013, ArtsPower's The Little Engine That Could Earns Her Whistle on March 3, 2013,  American Family Theater's Beauty and the Beast on March 17, 2013 and will finish with Fred Garbo's Inflatable Theater Company on May 19, 2013.
 
All seats are $8 for children and $12 for adults. Subscriptions for all five shows are $30 for children and $45 for adults.
