Kentwood Players announces auditions for "Hollywood Arms" by Carrie Hamilton and Carol Burnett on Saturday, September 17 from 11:00am to 4:00pm and Sunday, September 18 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at the Westchester Playhouse, located at 8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester (LA 90045). If necessary, callbacks will be held on Monday, September 19 at 7:00pm. The production is directed by Lewis Hauser and produced by Susan Goldman Weisbarth by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service. Performances will be from November 11 to December 17, 2011 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm at the Westchester Playhouse.

Adapted from Carol Burnett's memoir One More Time, "Hollywood Arms" is set in Hollywood, California in 1941 and 1951, and centers on the heartbreak and laughter shared by three generations of women living on welfare in a dingy Hollywood apartment house. The cast of characters, based on Burnett and her real-life relatives, includes no-nonsense grandmother Nanny; Louise, a beautiful, alcoholic mother determined to be a writer for movie magazines; Jody, an absent father who is struggling with his own demons; and Helen, a young girl whose only escape is the rooftop of their rundown building, where she creates her own magical world and dreams of a successful show business career.

Cast Breakdown:
Older Helen: 20-30yrs old--College age, talented daughter of Louise. Must have good singing voice and comic timing.
Younger Helen: 9-12 years old--Smart for her age, soaking up everything she sees.
Nanny: 50-60 years old--Headstrong Texan, tough as nails. Loves her granddaughter
Louise: 30-40 years old--Nanny's daughter, Helen and Alice's mother. A pretty woman, misguided, whose dreams are never realized. Alcohol takes over.
Jody: 30-40 years old--Louise's estranged husband. Worn out from alcohol.
Bill: 30-40 years old--Nice man who likes Louise.
Alice: 9-12 years old--Helen's younger sister, in the 6th grade.
Dixie: 30-50--Colorful landlady of the Hollywood Arms
Malcolm: 9-12--Dixie's son. Helen's childhood friend
Cop#1: 30-50 years of age
Cop#2: 30-50 years of age

The director requests that you read the play and be familiar with the characters. Everyone auditioning for "Older Helen" must prepare a song from any Broadway musical and be prepared to sing it acapella. There will be cold reading from the script. Please bring your headshot, resume, and appointment calendar with you as the rehearsal schedule will be posted. Advance appointments are not necessary.
