Steve Julian, host of KPCC's Morning Edition, will lead an audience talkback on the subject of spousal abuse following the June 26 performance of Wendy Graf's play, Behind the Gates. A former police officer, Mr. Julian wrote the domestic violence policy for the Baldwin Park Police Department in 1987, when California codified new laws prohibiting spousal abuse.

Behind the Gates is the story of a troubled American teen who vanishes into the mysterious world of Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox haredi community while on a summer trip to Israel, cutting off all communication with her family. Abuse against women in fundamentalist religious communities is one of the many themes touched upon in Graf's critically acclaimed new play.

Behind the Gates plays Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm, through July 3. On Saturday, June 26, Behind the Gates begins at 8 pm, with the talk back scheduled immediately following the two-hour performance.

Behind the Gates takes place at the Marilyn Monroe Theatre at the Lee Strasberg Creative Center, 7936 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, 90046. For reservations and information, call (323) 960- 5772 or go to www.Plays411.com/Gates.
