Israeli Shlomo Molla to Speak at Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts, 10/7

By:

The first Ethiopian member of the Israeli Parliament, Shlomo Molla, recently named Deputy Speaker in August 2011, will be a special guest of Rabbi David Baron at Yom Kippur High Holy Day Services on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 8:30 p.m. at the Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts at the Saban Theatre; 8440 Wilshire Boulevard; Beverly Hills, CA 90211. At that time Molla will tell his dramatic story of escape across the Sudan to freedom. Also speaking at the service will be the Mayor of Ashkelon in Israel, Benny Vaknin, whose city near Gaza has been subjected to persistent missile fire from the Hamas controlled Palestinian enclave.

Rabbi David Baron, founder of the Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts, the largest arts synagogue in the United States, which draws heavily from the entertainment community, said: "These two men bring us a message of hope and determination in the face of oppression and violence, and that is a message we need to hear."

The annual memorial service this year will be dedicated to the memory of two temple members who died in the past 12 months: noted producer, Laura Ziskin and veteran publicist, Ronni Chasen. The creative service will feature Los Angeles Philharmonic violinist, Mitchell Newman, and Broadway performers, Ilysia Pierce and Jordan Bennett, who serve as cantors. A new documentary film, entitled Unmasked, directed and produced by Gloria Z. Greenfield (Doc Emet Productions) will receive its World Premiere at Yom Kippur services at 2:15pm on October 8th. The new movie features a musical score by award-winning composer Sharon Farber, the musical director at the Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts.

The Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts also broadcasts its Yom Kippur service for the homebound on Direct TV, Comcast and Time Warner through JLTV (Jewish Life Television). For more information, or to reach Rabbi Baron and the temple guests, please call Melanie Kaspin at 323-658-9100 or log on to www.templeofthearts.org. Street parking restrictions have been lifted for the areas adjacent to the Saban Theatre. Young adult seating for ages 20 to 35 are available for a donation. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year on the Jewish calendar; it is a day of prayer and fasting for Jewish people around the world.
