Hudson Backstage Theatre Presents bare 11/14, 11/15

By:

In October of 2000, in a little theatre on Santa Monica Blvd, a theatrical phenomenon was about to be born. bare, with a score by Damon Intrabartolo and lyrics by Jon Hartmere, became an instant hit, extending several times, consistently playing to sell out crowds, and breaking box office records. The show would later receive another sold-out production at the American Theatre of Actors in New York City, and has become a favorite among regional theatres.

In the years since, bare has achieved an almost cult status among musical theatre fans and now the show will come home to the Hudson Theatre, where it all began nine years ago. This workshop production of bare was presented in concert at the Art|Works Theatre earlier this month (it's first production in the Los Angeles area since the original staging), and was such a hit that it will receive an additional two performances at the Hudson Theatre.

bare is a contemporary rock musical that focuses on the coming-of-age of five high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school. As the students struggle to find their identity, they strive to define themselves in terms of their sexuality, religion and relationships.

With a pulsing rock score at its center, bare follows the secret love affair between Peter and Jason, two dorm mates, and the sensual persistence of the popular Ivy, who aggressively pursues her attraction to Jason.

Casting for bare will be announced shortly. Direction is by Chris Chase, with Musical Direction by Rachel Howe. The concert is produced by NightGlory Productions, Topher Rhys, and Aysha Wax, in association with Nathan Gardner.

Performances will be Saturday, Nov 14 at 8:00, and Sunday Nov 15 at 7:00 at the Hudson Backstage Theatre located at 6539 Santa Monica Boulevard Hollywood, CA 90038. Tickets are $20.00 and available at http://www.bare-la.com.
