Grammy-nominated British group Goldfrapp debuts at the Hollywood Bowl in support of Head First, their 80s-inspired album enthusiastically received by critics. "...you should welcome Head First
like the first sun of spring, know it inside out by the time the band are slaying festival crowds mid-summer and possibly buying copies to give to close friends and family at Christmas. The word's overused, but this album deserves it: amazing." - BBC "This may be the most lovingly detailed synth-pop album since the golden days of Yaz and Kim Carnes." - Rolling Stone

The "grand old lady of Cuban music," 80-year-old internationally acclaimed singer Omara Portuondo has a remarkable career that spans over 60 years. Her participation in the iconic award-winning music documentary and album, The Buena Vista Social Club, brought her to international attention. Her solo album, The Buena Vista Social Club Presents Omara Portuondo, was enthusiastically received and confirmed her status as one of Cuba's greatest musical ambassadors. Her latest
album, Gracias, received a Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Tropical in 2009. For her Hollywood Bowl performance, Omara performs with the inimitable Cuban ensemble Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club®.

Merrill Garbus' project, tUnE-yArDs, has a worldly sound that fuses blues, jazz, folk, and traditional African beats. Her debut album, BiRd-BrAiNs, was put together using only a digital voice recorder and produced by a shareware mixing software. The critics readily acknowledge the powerful voice behind tUnE-yArDs; The New York Times ran a live review saying, "...Ms. Garbus, hiding behind that scrapheap of sound, has a ferocious voice, somewhere between Aretha Franklin and Yoko Ono. At times it was a roar, and at times it was coy, but her ability to modulate it showed off a rhythmic and artistic intelligence that echoed Bjork, and even to a degree M.I.A."
