The Hollywood Arts Council will celebrate its 30th Anniversary and present the 22nd Annual Charlie Awards at a Black-Tie, Red-Carpet Gala Event emceed by KABC Television's George Pennacchio.  The event is open to the general public and will be held at the historic Jim Henson Studios, home of the original Charlie Chaplin Studios and the world famous Muppets (1416 North LaBrea Avenue, south of Sunset Boulevard and De Longpre Avenue, Hollywood, CA  90028) on Saturday, March 29, 2008.

2008 Charlie Awards will be presented to:

Bob Mackie, the legendary American fashion icon who has been hailed as the Sultan of Sequins and the Rajah of Rhinestones for his sparkling, visually stunning and imaginative costume designs, will be honored with the Inaugural Fashion Arts Charlie Award for his contribution to fashion by creating legendary show-stopping costumes and a distinct Hollywood brand name. Mackie is perhaps best known for his costumes for Cher and for The Carol Burnett Show.  He has his own fashion line, and a plethora of celebrities have worn his outfits, including:  Carol Burnett, Cher, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minelli, Lucille Ball, Mitzi Gaynor, Bernadette Peters, Madonna, Judy Garland, Diana Ross, Diahann Carroll, Elton John, Oprah Winfrey, Bette Midler, Tina Turner, RuPaul, Whoopi Goldberg, Carol Channing and Anjelica Huston, to name a few.

Joe Pytka/Historic Lloyd Wright Residence will be honored with the Architectural Arts Charlie Award for undertaking and literally rebuilding the first residence designed by Frank Lloyd Wright's son, Lloyd, located in The Oaks area of old Hollywood.

The Blank Theatre Company at 2nd Stage will be honored with the Theatre Arts Charlie Award for solidly establishing a resident award-winning theatre company in the heart of Hollywood on Theatre Row.

Community Redevelopment Agency will be honored with the Public Art Charlie Award for guiding the investors in the new Hollywood to participate with an outstanding selection of artists who are using their vision to add to Hollywood's sense of place.

Iron Mountain will be honored with the Preservation Arts Charlie Award for being as solid as the mountain of Pennsylvania that bears its name providing security for the preservation of film, recordings and priceless artifacts and memorabilia, and for consistently supporting efforts toward the betterment of Hollywood and its arts.

Cinefamily/Silent Movie Theatre will be honored with the Cinematic Arts Charlie Award for its devotion to finding and presenting interesting and unusual programs of exceptional, distinctive and wonderful films while fostering a spirit of community, a sense of discovery in the movie-going experience and for bringing new life to a treasured venue.

Nyla Arslanian will be honored with the Community Arts Charlie Award for 30 years of service tirelessly promoting, nurturing and supporting the arts and the community of Hollywood.

Councilmember Tom LaBonge will receive a Special Recognition Charlie Award for his lifetime of service to Los Angeles, and in particular, Hollywood, and for his continued recognition and support of the arts.
