Grant Maloy Smith and Solomon King To Perform At Kulak's Woodshed

Billboard Top 10 country-roots singer/songwriter Grant Maloy Smith is teaming up with blues guitarist Solomon King for an evening of original music at Kulak's Woodshed in North Hollywood on Saturday, February 9. Award-winning Canadian singer/songwriter Rory Gardiner will open the show.

Smith has been making waves in Nashville and beyond, as a result of several projects. His most recent album, "Dust Bowl - American Stories," is based on the history of the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, with each song telling a different story about how average people survived the worst economic and environmental disaster of the 20th century. The album was on Billboard's top 10 Americana/Folk Album Sales chart for eleven weeks and received rave reviews in several national publications. One of the songs, "I Come From America," has been chosen for use in an upcoming movie.

More recently, Smith released the Christmas song "Fly Possum Fly" with rising teen country and bluegrass sensation EmiSunshine. However, he is most excited about his new ballad "Man of Steel" which has been adopted as the official theme song of the Los Angeles-based National Veterans Foundation (NVF).

"It's about a soldier who dreams of continuing to serve his country, despite being severely wounded in battle," Smith said. "I'm honored that the National Veterans Foundation chose to use it to raise awareness of the challenges our veterans often face, when they return home."

Meanwhile, Los Angeles-based Solomon King's latest album, "Against the Current," offers a unique blend of classical music, rock, R&B, blues and Americana. The Detroit native's previous album, "Under the Sun," was produced by Motown legend Sylvester Rivers and was nominated for a Grammy Award in the "Best Contemporary Blues Album" category. Two songs from that album, "Jack Me Up" and "Frankie & Johnny" were featured in the first season of HBO's hit series "True Blood."

Grant Maloy Smith and Solomon King will perform at Kulak's Woodshed, 5230 Laurel Canyon Blvd., North Hollywood, on Saturday, February 9, at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door.
